Were You Passed Up For A Promotion And You Believe It's Because Of Discrimination? What You Need To Do

Posted on

As someone that works very hard at your job, you may find yourself wanting to promote through the ranks so you can end up with a more important role in the company and with a larger paycheck. If you have recently tried for a promotion but were passed up for the job and you believe it has a lot to do with discrimination, you will want to take action. This is not something that you want to just overlook because if the company discriminated against you now, they might very well continue to do so in the future, which will hold you back from excelling like you should. If you believe that your employer broke the law in terms of discrimination, you will want to do the following:

Try To Figure Out How You Were Discriminated Against

There is the gender discrimination law that gets broke a lot because some employers think that certain positions are just better done by a male or a female, and it can't be properly done by either or. For example, maybe within your company the majority of the employees are male and you are a female. A male got the promotion, but he has less education, has not been there as long as you, and has a poor work performance record than you. In this case, it can be easy to see the discrimination. Then again, maybe you feel you were discriminated against because of your race or religion. Make note of what you believe the problem is and the situations that have brought you to this understanding.

Hire Legal Services

This is not a battle that you want to face on your own, especially since most companies can afford their own legal team to fight against your claim of discrimination. This does not mean that you should not seek justice though. What it does mean is that you need to retain the services of an attorney. Make sure that the attorney that you retain is someone that has handled cases like yours in the past and that they have successfully done so. This will help give you the best chance of a win should you have to take this matter all of the way to court for a judge to decide on.

As you can see, there are a couple of things that you should do now should you feel that your employer has discriminated against you.
